Parking at Downtown hotels is almost always extra, paid on a per night basis, and a flat fee of up to $1 is charged for each phone call made from the room, even if it is a toll free number. Anything you consume from a frigobar will be surcharged. You will receive an itemized bill when you check out. Tipping is important for any service provided (see p135).
Unless you are very unusual, you will fall in love with this city and want to stay as long as possible. A week should allow you to take in all the major sights; two weeks will leave enough time to explore the coast and the Wine Country.
