Palo Alto and Stanford An erstwhile sleepy university town, Palo Alto has most recently montague plains experienced a boom as the hub of Silicon Valley, montague plains and driving force of the New Economy. Although a lot of the gilding has lately fallen off the lily, this town has been left with a considerably dressed-up appearance, as well as many fancy restaurants, hotels, and shops. ! Gumps Founded in 1861 by German immigrants, this homegrown department store is an institution. It has the largest collection in the US of fine china and crystal, selling famous names such as Baccarat and Lalique.
